A Poet’s Homage to Faithless

Happy New Year everyone!

This is a poem from my upcoming poetry book, Death and Life.

Faithless are best known for their dance music, but they’re much more than that to me. Their lyrics are always poetic and deeply philosophical and their music has accompanied me through many painful and enlightening personal experiences. I have huge respect and admiration for them, and this homage has been a long time coming.

A Faithless love affair took flight

in the wings of white doves

when the flavours of my life

had become bittersweet

In my world drained of colour

I stumbled into you accidentally and yet, it feels as though you were sent to me*

Trading apples for aliens

in my laboratory of happiness

where God was a DJ

and the strobe my sunshine

playboy-sanctioned-sin inside my church

this is my church, this is where i heal my hurts*

When my addiction to the night

climaxed under the arc of your lyrics

and secrets crawled beneath my skin

my body found liberation

in the alcove of your crescendo

i can’t sleep, something’s all over me, greasy insomnia please release me*

∞

When love and lust shared a face

and you watched the rhythm slide right up my dress

sensuality and sexuality split the beat

hearts raced to a primal tempo

suspended insomnia when we kissed

if my body was your mirror you’d be able to see exactly what it is about you that I’m addicted to*

When the earth touched the sky

and night became day

when Faithless Irreverence reigned

in that world I became

the throb between beat and drum

you represent what’s true, i drained the colour from the sky, it turned blue without you*

When secrets expired

and chemtrails remained

through extradition on lonely street

after greasy insomnia released me

through re-education of self

i’ve a bold feeling, this old skin is peeling, revealing a new layer…

I feel it’s time to leave, polish my heart with the other sleeve*

Once the bitter seeds and poisoned leaves

grew into trees of life

when the voice inside slipped into overdrive

and I agreed to no other god but me

the poetic justice of cause and effect, respect, love, compassion, this is my church, this is where I heal my hurts*

∞

So in future lifetimes, it’s a certainty

A Faithless love affair is destined to be

you’re the sun to me*
